Symptoms and Treatment for Whiplash

Symptoms and Treatment for Whiplash

Did you know that you can sustain injuries from an auto accident without even knowing it? Walking away from an auto accident with no visible injuries is a lucky occurrence, but your body can react days after an accident. At Hansen Chiropractic, we always recommend having an examination after experiencing a car crash. You can suffer from whiplash without even knowing it, and the longer you go without treatment, the worse your symptoms can become.

Babylon Chiropractor Describes Whiplash

Almost everyone has heard of whiplash, but do you really know what it is? In most cases, whiplash is caused by a rear-end auto accident, according to our chiropractor. When your car is hit from behind, your head will snap back quickly, then fall forward just as fast. These acceleration and deceleration forces on your spine cause an injury known as whiplash. The most common symptom is the pain, which can range from mild to extreme, but you may also experience neck stiffness, shoulder and upper back pain, headaches, and even numbness that radiates into the shoulder.

Whiplash and Chiropractic Care

Whiplash is often a silent condition for the first few days. You can feel perfectly fine before developing symptoms up to a week afterward. In the meantime, you could still be adding to your injuries by not treating them. This is why it's so important to seek chiropractic help after a car accident. Our chiropractor, Dr. Chris Hansen, can examine and begin to treat your body right away, preventing additional injuries from happening.

Because every case of whiplash is different, we offer multiple treatments for every case. Some of the more common methods we use are:

  • Muscle relaxation or stimulation
  • Spinal manipulation
  • Prescribed exercises
  • Lifestyle changes and ergonomic adjustment in the environment
