Types of Headaches and How a Chiropractor Can Help Ease Your Pain

Tension Headaches – Probably the most common type of headache, tension headaches are typically caused by poor posture, which tends to cause stress on the spine as well as the muscles that surround the neck and upper back area. When the vertebra in the back loses correct positioning, the muscle spasms that occur are what makes your neck hurt. Tension headaches can also happen as the result of whiplash from a car accident.

Migraine Headaches – The most painful of all headaches, migraines include intense pain which is often paired with nausea and sensitivity to light and noise.  Migraine headaches occur when blood vessels in the brain constrict, then immediately dilate. It is this rapid increase in blood pressure that leads to the awful pain that migraines cause.

Cluster Headaches – Cluster headaches are the ones you feel behind your eyes. These painful headaches typically occur at night and are like a migraine, without the intensity. Cluster headaches typically happen one to four times per day over several days in clusters, which is how they got their name.

How Chiropractic Care at Our Office can Help Headaches and Migraines Experienced in the Communities of West Babylon, Babylon, Long Island, West Islip, Lindenhurst, and Copiague, NY

Our Long Island Chiropractor, Dr. Hansen, can help give you relief from all of these different types of headaches. Chiropractic treatment has been proven to be an effective way to treat these headaches and provide relief to even long time sufferers.

The first step in finding a successful pain treatment plan is to find the source of your head pain. Common causes include poor posture, whiplash, TMJ, fatigue and stress. At Hansen Chiropractic, we understand that some headaches can be debilitating and that the pain needs to be addressed quickly by our experienced chiropractor, so you can get back to your normal routine.

Manual chiropractic adjustments can help with headache pain and are especially effective for those that begin in the neck area. Spinal manipulation actually offers immediate and longer relief for tension headaches than prescription medication does. We also offer heat therapy, cryotherapy, laser therapy, and massage therapy for headache pain treatment.

Other Techniques Used for Relief of Headache and Migraine Pain

  • Upper Cervical Chiropractic – A specialized chiropractic technique that focuses on head pain, such as  headaches or conditions related to the neck.
  • VibraPercussor Myofascial Release Technique – This technique, an alternative to massage therapy, helps patients with injuries and muscle pain and improves the circulatory and lymphatic system. The focus is on alleviating pain from injuries or muscle in the back and neck which can cause headaches.
  • Trigger Point Therapy – Chiropractic techniques that focus on specific points that cause pain known as trigger points. Pressure is relieved from these painful areas that encourages the body to heal.
  • Mechanical Traction – This procedure uses a mechanical tool to resolve discomfort and pain in the neck and back. An injury that impacts your mobility can benefit from the use of mechanical traction
